This course contains a blend of text and a multimedia interactive component to look at the uniformity and diversity within cells. Fundamental to understanding how cells ‘work’ is knowledge of the sub-cellular components and how they are arranged and this is tested through a series of in-text and self-assessment questions.

Learning outcomes

After studying this course, you should be able to:

  • list the main components of cells
  • summarise the structure and function of the different components
  • outline how cell ultrastructure is related to cell function
  • identify cell organelles and the main cytoskeletal components in diagrams and EM micrographs and interpret simple EM images.
